frontal-lobeThe frontal lobe is really what makes humans, humans. All of the “Higher Thinking” we carry out everyday if controlled by the frontal lobe. The frontal lobe controls things like rewards, consequences, similarities and differences, problem solving, language, memory, and fine motor skill. You’re using your frontal lobe as you do your math homework by remembering formulas, reading problems, solving problems, writing down the answers, or even debating whether or not you should do it all together! Humans have the biggest frontal lobe out of any animal, however there prone to damage as there large, and at the front of the cranium. There have been many cases of Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s after an injury to the frontal lobe. Since the frontal lobe controls emotions and thoughts, it’s also the source for many mental disorders like schizophrenia. In an attempt to rid the body of the mental disorders lobotomies were performed to remove the connections to the frontal lobe. This worked, however it also limited patients from having most emotions.
