This Friday (April 24, 2015) the Hubble Space Telescope turned 25 years old! On April 24, 1990 the Hubble Space Telescope was launched on the space shuttle Discovery and released at an altitude of 340 miles. When the first few images came back from the Hubble, they were blurry. The reason for this was the main mirror was off by four microns, this is less than a strand of hair! So in December of 1993 the mirror was replaced and the 11 ton, bus sized space telescope was sending the silky smooth images we know the Hubble for. In the next 10 years the Hubble will be replaced with the more powerful James Web Telescope.
